COMETS Program

COMETS is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Program

The Courses on Math, Engineering, Technology and Science (COMETS) Program is a STEM initiative of both education and industry. COMETS is directed at supporting and guiding middle school students as they gain confidence in their abilities in science, math, engineering and technology. The purpose of the program is to:

  • provide sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in southwestern Pennsylvania with mentoring support and hands-on experiential learning activities that support the pursuit of upper-level math and science courses in high school
  • provide a positive perspective of college-level STEM courses
  • give encouragement and guidance in selecting future STEM-related careers, both college degree and non-degree careers.

Parent/Student Awareness

Throughout the program, parents will receive access to STEM resources such as future STEM programs, information on new careers in STEM fields, and tools that will enhance student interest. Participants will also receive information on STEM student websites and notifications for area programs throughout the year.

The funding for this STEM initiative is provided by: Emerson Charitable Trust

Students will receive a COMETS T-shirt for participating in this program.

Registration is now closed for the 2025 Session.

We regret to inform you that the COMETS program for Spring 2025 has been cancelled.
